A little update on whats been going on at Henstone Distillery
Sanitiser
At the start of the pandemic lock-down we immediately shifted the distillery production focus from our gins, vodka and whisky to hand sanitiser. We decided to do this to help and support the local community by providing a much needed product and have been honoured to supply the RJAH Orthopaedic, Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals amongst numerous others including care homes, Post Offices, hauliers, etc since. We distilled most of the ethanol required on site and followed the World Health Organisation formulation or recipe. Its been really interesting listening to feedback because, yes, some of our sanitiser does smell like whisky!! We continue to produce this and will do as long as the demand exists.
Best in Britain 2020
In April we were so pleased to learn that our London Dry Gin (our original gin which we started producing in February 2018) won “Best in Britain” along with a number of other awards in 2020 The Gin Guide competition. To quote The Gin Guide press release “Henstone Distillery in Shropshire took centre stage with the ‘Distillery of the Year’ Award, alongside being winners in the London Dry Gin, Traditional Gin and Aged Gin categories.“ This really was the icing on the cake for us and vindicated our hard work and dedication to quality.
Oh, and did we tell you we won Distillery of the Year 2020 in the same competition? What an accolade!
Online Shop
Because of lock-down and peoples’ natural shift to online shopping we decided to launch our own online store around the middle of May. Designed and developed in house, just like our spirits, this has been a great success and in the short time we’ve been open for business online we’ve sent bottles and glasses the length and breadth of the country! Our online shop can be found at https://www.henstonedistillery.com/collections/all
Whisky
Behind the scenes we continue to produce whisky which was the initial driver for the whole distillery project. The really good news is that our very first batch can be officially called whisky, after three years of maturation in wooden barrels, on the 11th of January 2021 – so 186 days from when this article was written. Now, we believe many people think our whisky is sold out so we’d like to take this opportunity to let you know it isn’t!! We did pre-sell 200 bottles from batch one but have produced much more since and expect to be releasing batches of our Henstone Whisky every other month or so from January 2021. Please keep your eyes and ears open for news about our releases of what is expected to be a much sought after product.
