New Make Spirit

Every wanted to know what whisky tastes like before it is matured in wooden barrels? Well, now’s your chance! After being asked loads of times we’ve decided to start selling Henstone New Make Spirit. This is the barley spirit that comes from the whisky distillation process and is then diluted (liquored back) to cask strength – so this is not for the faint hearted as it’s 65.4% ABV/VOL.

A small number of bottles New Make Spirit will be allocated from certain distillations and then put up for sale – so the exact batch cannot be guaranteed, however, all details will be handwritten on the label. The label too is handmade by us – otherwise we’d have to charge more. 

As per the whisky description, the mash and then wash is all produced on site before being distilled in our 1000 litre pot/column hybrid still, Hilda. The distillate comes off the still at about 87% ABV and this is then diluted to cask strength with very pure water.

Most customers would drink this as it is or perhaps with a little water but it can also be used as the base for some wonderful cocktails – so get experimenting!!
